‘Solstice’ wedding jewellery commission

I am so excited to have completed a commission for bridal jewellery!!! I have made a necklace and earring set for a lovely bride to-be who is getting married in January 2015. The theme is winter with icicles and snow as inspirations for the piece.

Here is the initial design idea chosen from a selection by the bride to-be:

I started with the snowball cabochons, made from fimo polymer clay and then varnished them to get a lovely sparkly snow-like sheen:

Next I measured backing and sewed them onto the piece.

And started beading…..

Comissioned ‘Emperor’ necklace and earrings set

026

I am excited to be working on a commissioned necklace and earrings set!!!

The colour purple’s history has inspired the name of the work. In past times, purple was reserved for Roman Emperors and was associated with supreme power through Israel to Persia. Hence, I am calling this piece ‘Emperor’.

I used the complementary colours of purple and yellow (gold) and the spilt-complementary colour of blue to ensure striking contrasts that would be opulent and sophisticated. I think the gold elevates and illuminates, warming like the sun.

Heres my initial design idea:

I started the piece by making cabochans (shaped pieces which attract the eye and are often located centrally to the work) which I made from a mix of polymer clay colours and gold leaf.

After beading the cabochans with seed beads, I masked out the backs and then covered them in faux ultra-suede.

And then after tidying – here is the finished result!!! I am really pleased with it- I hope that the recipient is too!!!

‘Beaded Moon’ embroidered necklace and earrings set

‘Beaded Moon’ based on the idea of moons surrounded by a bead galaxy and inspired the name ‘Beaded Moon Jewellery’ for this blog!

I used the complementary colours of orange and blue – in natures terms; fire and ice. I thought that the use of hot and cold colours would be a striking contrast. In the American Southwest, orange rock against blue sky is often a source of inspiration for the turquoise and coral combinations (representing heaven and earth) in Native American jewellery.

In this case, I have used Turquoise, Orange Aventurine and Opalite alongside embroidery backing, thread, polymer clay, paints, beads and findings (ie clasps and earring wires).

Opalite is associated with energy, stabilizing emotions and increasing a sense of worth. Turquoise is associated with enhancing and strengthening aura, connecting to the spiritual world and calming overactive thoughts. Orange Aventurine is associated with calming emotions, encouraging a positive outlook and happiness and relaxation.
